Three set pieces led to the goals scored in today's League Cup final between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, and since two of them found the Blues rueing their bad luck, the defending title-holders were on the losing end after extra time. Didier Drogba brought his side ahead on 37 minutes, Michael Ballack's former Leverkusen team-mate Dimitar Berbatov converted a contested penalty for handball to tie the game (69'), and in extra time Jonathan Woodgate scored the 2-1 winner after a free kick, even though Petr Cech had beaten him to the cross (94').…
The Blues, who started without Michael Ballack, finally made their presence felt with half an hour gone. A few minutes later Ballack came on for Michael Essien, then the referee ended the 90 minutes. Extra time it was.…
